2K12
We polished off 2011 on the magical island of Prince Edward, where horses pull jewel encrusted chariots made entirely of potatoes, all the gables are pure emerald and the celebration takes place not just on one night but each and every night of the year, start to finish. After closing out the 12th year of the century on one island, it was with eager hearts that we made our way to another island to play our first show of the year. Friday the 13th. The Backlot in Cornerbrook Newfoundland. It was the official launch of Tom Fun 2K12 - the year we explode and scatter like sparkles in snow globe after 20 minutes in a motorized paint can shaker. We rode on the backs of sea swells the size of bloated mountains for infinity plus one hours to get from Cape Breton to Newfoundland and it was worth it. Newfoundland is always worth it. Our companion of the sea, our partner in music and ideas, thank you Newfoundland for the perfect introduction to our new year.
Moving forward on the pedway of time, we will continue to plop around the Maritimes in between visits to the studio to tinker with our upcoming album. This week we're paying visits to friends in Charlottetown (hello again), Halifax and Saint John, NB on January 19th, 20th & 21st respectively. For this trip we'll be teaming up with fellow Cape Bretoners,
The Town Heroes, a two piece band from Inverness County, who produce such staggeringly beautiful bursts of volume and melody you tend to forget they are only two. The last time we teamed up with them for a show in Sydney, NS, too many people (can there really be too many?) showed up looking for too much fun (no such thing) and the local fire marshalls arrived in packs to pull the plug on the party. Come find out what kind of calamity will take place this time around as
The Tom Fun Orchestra &
The Town Heroes team up to battle the forces of evil in a town near you.
The Return of the Flying Horse!
Dear Old Tiny Dancers,
We are excited to announce the return of our legendary annual residency,
The Flying Horse Cabaret. Each Thursday in December, we will ride the Flying Horse through the window of
Governor Bunker's Peanut Mansion in Sydney, NS in celebration of the holiday season and all things that are good. New to this year's edition of the Flying Horse, we've invited some of our favourite bands from around Cape Breton to share the stage with us each week. Our list of celebrity guest stars looks just like this:
December 1 |
The Den Scholars
December 8 |
The Yarnells |
Buck & Kinch
December 15 |
Moving Arms
December 23 |
The Town Heroes
If you're in Cape Breton or feel like it's time you paid a visit to Cape Breton, we hope you'll stop by and say hello to the Flying Horse. He's waiting for you (and you. . .and you)
Gobble Gobble
pssssst. . . . hey you.
Yes, you! Want to know a secret? Of course you do.
Well before I tell you, I have to warn you. It's not an ordinary secret, it's a reverse secret! When someone tells you a reverse secret you have to tell everyone, everywhere as quickly as possible, as though your life depended on it. Tattoo it on your chest, call in to your local radio station and demand it be announced on air, whisper it to your lover, shout it at your neighbour, send a message in a bottle, leave a note on your napkin: On October 8th, 2011 The Tom Fun Orchestra will poke its head out of the Rabbit Hole for a rare all ages performance in its home town of Sydney, NS to mark the return of Cape Breton's beloved
GobbleFest. If you're in the area we hope you'll come pay us a visit. More to the point, we hope you'll come out in droves to support a dandy of a festival. Details on our performance can be found in the Shows section of our website and for more information on the rest of the festival, visit the
Caper Radio's internet home.

Rhythm is a Dancer
Dear Rhythm Nation,
Do you play the drums? Are you good at playing the drums? Do you have free time to learn a whole bunch of songs in the next 3 weeks, then hop in a van and drive across Canada and play those songs in front of all kinds of nice people?
If the answer to these questions is a big fat y.e.s., then please email ian@tomfun.ca to arrange an audition. Last Caress
On Saturday, May 28th we will dance one last dance with our good friend
The Paragon Theatre before she closes her doors for good. We'll save a dance for you too if only you'll join us.
